Small Actions. Big Impact.

Have a Heart is the first and only registered non-profit organisation in Namibia dedicated to mass sterilisation in townships and informal settlements. Since 2013, our volunteers have worked alongside low- and no-income families - building real relationships based on trust, education, and compassion.

We don't just treat animals. We take the time to talk to owners, answer questions, and explain why sterilisation, vaccination, and parasite control matter. That human-centred approach is what makes our work stick.

Why This Work Matters

In many low-income communities across Namibia, pets are family. Research shows that 1 in 4 people owns a dog, and 1 in 5 owns a cat - yet basic veterinary care is simply out of reach for most.

We estimate that at least 250,000 dogs and 200,000 cats qualify for free support. Our spay days fill up within hours. The need is real, and it is growing.

One sterilisation prevents hundreds of unwanted litters. It means fewer animals suffering, healthier communities, and less pressure on already stretched shelters.

Simple, practical, and lasting.

Healthier communities

          How We Work

Have a Heart collaborates with around 30 veterinarians and mobile clinics to bring vital veterinary care directly into the communities that need it most - townships, villages, informal settlements, and remote areas across Namibia.

To ensure our work creates lasting change, we follow the six internationally recognised principles of Dog and Cat Population Management as defined by ICAM: humane practices, local adaptation, sustained programmes, evidence-based design, continuous monitoring, and addressing root causes.

This means every spay day is planned with purpose, every animal treated is recorded, and every community we enter is approached with respect and long-term commitment.

We don't just show up - we follow up.
